When we learn about animals, is to never try and break up a dog fight! My advice – ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS! Even though it’s hard to do when you see an animal that you love being torn apart.
I forgot it last night, when Jack attacked Bear. I tried slamming a book against my leg (making a loud noise), but although it had worked every time previously, they ignored it. Bear being so much bigger than Jack had a clear advantage, and was tearing my poor little guy apart.

I think I would of done the same thing you did, and that is to break up the fight. I hope you are ok you didn’t mention how extent the damage to you was. I think they will find a good home for Bear, at least what you have posted he seems to be a good dog all in all.

I didn’t sustain much damage – Jack came out of it worse than I did. I’ve got lots of black and blue marks on my left arm and a nice gash on my left palm. It just happened to be in a bad place so there was a lot of blood. My son thought I was going to bleed to death on him, our kitchen was literally covered in blood – some mine, some Jack’s. But really it’s nothing that a couple butterfly bandages and time won’t fix. I’m more sore from making over 85 quarts of grape juice that day, than I am from the dog fight.
That is good to hear, and 85 quarts of grape juice!!!!! That is a lot!!!! I made about 15 quarts of apples sauce and that took me a couple days. I also made tomato sauce this year and I will never do that again. We had about 50 lbs of tomatoes and only came out to 7 quarts of tomato sauce. Do you have grape vines?
Jim
No, my brother in law went fishing in Erie the other day, so he stopped and picked us a bushel of grapes. $13 for the grapes, about $25 in sugar, and 4 hours time (Me, my mom and dad working on it) for 85 quarts of juice – not a bad deal. I just hate having to clean all the grapes!
Only 7 quarts of sauce? that sounds really low – I thought my dad said the other night that they got over 10 quarts out of a five gallon bucket.
So make tomato sauce you have cook it down to half of what it started at. He may of made tomato juice so you don’t have to cook it down as much. I would hate to make my own tomato paste!!! It hurts to think about it.
I don’t think they cook it down to half – they might use some tomato paste in it though – it’s been years since I helped make the sauce.
[...] week, my Jack Russell got pretty torn up in a dog fight, most of his cuts and bruises have healed up pretty nicely. Except one on the back of his neck, [...]
