I can't see letting my twelve year old daughter read them, not that I have one, and ten is definitely way too young. Maybe around fourteen, they'd be appropriate, I was probably reading trashy romance novels at that age, and I pretty much let my son read anything he wants now, we often share books. But he seems so much more adult compared to the twelve year old girl. I'm glad it's not my ultimate decision - at least yet. My daughter is 10 and she has friends who have read the Twilight books so some people think that 10 is old enough. I don't think she is old enough so I have not let her read them.
