Backwards?

There’s an old saying that goes something along the lines of:  You always hurt worst the ones you love.

I’m finding that maybe that saying is backwards and it should be more along the lines of:  The ones you love will always hurt you the worst.

Or something along that general direction…  Why is that?  Probably because they have it within their power to hurt you the worst…

    I think you have a very good point there.

    I wouldn’t look at as backwords so much as the other person fullfilling the saying. You just happened to be the one in the cross hairs.

      But what if it’s a one-sided love? (And it really isn’t about me – just one of those random thoughts that popped into my mind after talking to a friend.)

    What you said reminded me of a quote I once read…
    “Be careful to whom you give your heart to. Because you’re not only giving him the power to love you, but also the power to hurt you.”

    Both your statements are true though. We tend to hurt the ones we love the worst. Same goes for ourselves too, the ones we love will hurt us the worst. I don’t know if I made sense with that. ^_^;
