I always thought it was the parents whom were supposed to give the advice, not the children.  But lately it seems as if my father and I have switched places and I’m now his parent.  Hmm…  Maybe it has something to do with his father, and only remaining parent dying this summer, or maybe it’s just age.

It seems as if he calls me to check on any decision he has to make, before he makes it.  Whether it be able his computer, which I had to pick out for him, to the design of his new business cards (Well, of course I did design his website, so that one I guess makes sense.)  I even had to pick out the promotional business gifts, the pens and magnets and all that crap that he hands out, which personally I think is a big waste of money, but he swears by that stuff because he’s used it since he started his own business back before I was even born.

His lastest plea for advice was where to go next.  He and my mother travel and work as a handyman team for at least six months out of the year, while I’m stuck in western PA running their construction crew.  I don’t do it out of a love for the family business, I do it out of a sense of loyalty to my parents.

Hey they supported me for eightteen years, and then helped me out how ever they could after wards.  If it wasn’t for my parents, I would have probably lost the land that I fought for years to acquire, and the new house I hadn’t even moved into yet, this fall when the bank that had committed to my mortgage went under before we could close.

But instead, my wonderful father stepped in and convinced the local bank to finance it for us.  They had previously turned us down.

But anyway, back to his latest question.  Where should they go next?  They’re in Four Oaks, NC working with my dad’s younger brother currently.  But they’re quickly tiring of the place, but not yet ready to come home, because of the weather here.

This is one question I fear that I’ll never be able to answer for them.  How do I know where they should go?  I’m not even sure how to research this online.  I can search and find out which places have the most handymen services, but I can’t find places that need more!
