Thanksgiving 2005Our first Thanksgiving in our new house.  We were quite excited when my parents announced they wouldn’t be coming home for Thanksgiving this year (yeah, I know we’re mean ;) ), that meant we got to stay home instead of running all day.  Then my oh, so wonderful mother in law (yeah, I’m being sarcastic – everyone knows that my mother in law can’t stand me, and I think she a controlling old witch) invited us to her place, we told her we’d think about it, then we were saved by my son.  He wants to spend half of Thanksgiving with his father, which means there’s no way we can drive two hours to my mother in laws house and still have him back for his dad to pick up!

So I decided to cook and was really looking forward to it, just a small Thanksgiving dinner for the four of us.  Then Gram called, her sister whom always cooks during the holidays isn’t doing it this year, so Gram and my Aunt and Uncle had no where to go.  I got guilted into inviting them to my house, and suddenly things didn’t look so fun anymore.

Now instead of a nice relaxing Thanksgiving dinner, followed by lounging around the house and no work, I’m looking at scrubbing my whole house spotlessly clean, or having me aunt make faces as she looks around.  Cooking a huge dinner instead of a simple one, and entertaining people I have nothing in common with.

Who said the holidays are for families?  Why must be always be guilted into extended family events that we want nothing to do with?

Then to top it off, I had mother in law on the phone this morning already harping about christmas.  My husband’s sister sent her a plane ticket to fly down and spend christmas with her family (Thank you Jen!), and she thinks we should go too.

First off, Jen and I barely talk.  We’ve only gotten alone at all since my husband and I got back together, and then it’s still just becaue cheapest cialis prices we rarely have to deal with each other.  So why would I want to spend hundreds of dollars to fly down to their place?

Secondly, they have six children, her boyfriend’s mother lives can you buy prescription drugs online without a prescription with them, and her own mother will be there.  Ten people in a four bedroom house?  That doesn’t sound fun to me.

Thirdly, once again my son, saves the day in my opinion, ruins things in my mother in laws opinion, by always going to his father’s for half the day.  So there’s absolutely no way I would keep him from his father on christmas by taking a trip.  Aren’t holidays for the families after all?

She gave up for now, but she’s already talking about wanting the whole family together for at least one holiday a year….  blah, blah, blah…  About that time in our telephone conversation I lost interest and got wrapped up in a rousing game of solitare.

At least my wonderful hubby agrees with me.  He’s not anymore anxious to spend the holidays with his family than I am.

But it’s not only his family, if we lived farther away from mine, I’d probably come up with a thousand excuses not to go to their place either (when they’re home). I talk to my parents more when they are away for the winters than I do when they are home.

Families are great – in small doses!  Wasn’t the saying, house guests are like fish, after two days they start to stink! (Well, in my case it would be after two hours!)

Happy Thanksgiving All!
