Divorced Couples Handbook

In this world there are millions and millions of books on every subject imaginable, and some that most people wouldn’t even imagine.  But there are some books that I think are missing!

Where is the divorced couples handbook?

Today is my former mother-in-law’s funeral, and I’m quite confused about my place there, as the ex-wife.  Sure, I took my turn sitting with her at the hospital this past week, I helped organize the funeral, the arrangements, etc. – but I did this in my capacity as friend of my ex-husband’s sister – not really in my capacity as ex-wife.

So where do I stand?

Sherri (my sister-in-law, and good friend) wants me there, but the rest of the extended family thinks of me only as the ex-wife, not Sherri’s friend.

So what the hell am I supposed to do?

Is hiding in a corner at a funeral acceptable?

Can I sneak out the back door when Sherri’s not looking?

Or do I stand like an idiot, with my son, my ex-husband and his girlfriend in the receiving line?

Where’s the handbook for this kind of stuff?  There’s etiquette guides for just about every other social situation, generic online pharmacies no prescription cialis 20 mg why not this one?

I loved my mother-in-law (former mother-in-law I guess I should say) dearly, but I don’t want to make any of the other family uncomfortable, I know I sure don’t feel comfortable going, but yet, I can’t imagine not going to say goodbye.

You need to do what you want and not what others expect or think you should do. I think you should go to pay your respect to her, screw everybody else. You only get once chance to say goodbye.

I did go, and I did stay! Two of the elderly family members mistook me for Sherri, not that it hasn’t happened before by other people. But seriously, I’m nearly a foot taller than her, and a brunette, where as she’s a short blond with a massive chest… It wasn’t one of the worst funerals I’ve been too, but it was a bit awkward at times.
